Adepero Oduye is brillaint as a 17 year old Black lesbian embracing her identification and trying to start her life. While components of the semi-autobiographical film are hard to look at, all of it is worth it. There are few movies as highly effective, triumphant, and delightful as this one. Dee Rees is a powerhouse, and Pariah is her queer masterpiece, up to now. This film is nice, attractive, and funny and features one of my favourite couples in any lesbian movie.
